Toggle between Legend and LayerList

By clicking on this button you can toggle between the legend and the list of layers.

Toggle Overview Map

By clicking on this button you get rid of the overview map in the upper left.  You can turn it back on by clicking the button again.

Zoom to Full Extent

Clicking this button will zoom you out to the full extent of all the data.

Zoom to Active Layer

Clicking this button will zoom you out to whatever layer you have active.  If you have roads active and click this button it will zoom to where you can see all roads.

Zoom In

By clicking on this button, and then clicking on the map you will zoom in.  You can also drag a box on the map to where you want to zoom.  This is done by holding the left mouse button down on the map and dragging the mouse to the lower bottom right to form the box.  Once you let go it zooms to the box you created.

Zoom Out

By clicking on this button, and then clicking on the map you will zoom out.  You can also drag a box on the map to zoom out.  This is done by holding the left mouse button down on the map and dragging the mouse to the lower bottom right to form the box.  Once you let go it zooms out.

Back to Last Extent

Clicking on this button will take you back to your last view on the map.

Pan

By clicking on this button, and then holding the left mouse button down on the map and dragging, you can move the view in different directions.

Pan to North

Clicking this button will move you northward on the map.

Pan to South

Clicking this button will move you southward on the map.

Pan to West

Clicking this button will move you westward on the map.

Pan to East

Clicking this button will move you eastward on the map.

Identify

By clicking on this button, and then clicking on the active layer in the map you will be able view the attributes for different features in that layer.  For instance, if you want to view the attributes (road name, etc.) for roads, you have to make sure roads is the active layer.  When you click on a road segment the attributes will be displayed as a table, you can then find out what the road name is.

Query  (Allows you to search the data.)

Find

This is another way to search.  The difference being that when you type in say "1" it will find every record that has a "1" in it no matter where.  For instance, if I search the tax parcels layer and I search for "1", it will give me every record where the parcel identification has a "1", where acres has a "1"in it, etc.

Measure

By clicking on this button, and then clicking on the map you can measure distances between points.  You can also change what it is measuring in from feet, miles, meters, or kilometers by changing the units (see below).

Set Units

By clicking on this button you can change the units that are being read on the map.  They can be feet, miles, meters, or kilometers.

Buffer

First you select a feature, then you click this button to create a buffer around that feature.  It will select all the features that are within that buffer.  For instance, if you have a tax parcel selected and you select the buffer to be one mile, it will select all tax parcels that are within one mile of that parcel.

Select by Rectangle

By clicking on this button, and then creating a box on the map by holding down the left mouse button and dragging diagonally, you will select all features that touch that box. (It selects only features for the layer that is active, make sure the layer you want is active.)

Select by Line/Polygon

By clicking on this button, and then drawing a line on the map, you will be able to select all features that touch that line.  You can also choose to select by polygon, so it will close your line you have drawn to make it a polygon.  All features that touch this polygon will be selected.  (It selects only features for the layer that is active, make sure the layer you want is active.)

Clear Selection

Clicking this button will clear any selections or measurements you made.

Print

Clicking this button will allow you to print a map.
